I find it very coincidental that I picked the Groundhog Spirit card today which is about letting go of behaviors or other things that are no longer serving me being that it was just Groundhog Day! I don’t necessarily believe in Oracle or Tarot cards and I certainly don’t pick one everyday but I think they are fun as a “focus for the day” and can bring more meaning to my day or even comfort at times. You can do a similar thing by writing quotes you like on pieces of paper and putting them all in a jar and picking one each day to be something you focus on that day.
This coping skill helps you get outside of yourself and have something that you try to notice for that day. It can be looking for something you are grateful for, or focusing on a thought of the day, etc… There are many calendars or planners that have thoughts of the day or even small books that have such thoughts of the day in them if you don’t want to make your own.
My oracle card pick of the day comes from an Oracle Card Deck by Colette Baron-Reid and it has a nice book with it that says which each card represents. Another deck that I find comforting and healing for trauma survivors is Whispers of Healing by Angela Hartfield which also has a book that talks about each individual card.
Again, I am not saying that I believe necessarily in the spiritual element of these cards or not although I think having a focus of the day can be a healing or spiritual experience in itself. Give it a try, have an open mind, and see if it changes how your day goes to have a focus in mind!
